The retirement of Arcadis' long time global CEO sparked an idea to present him with artwork from the creative staff working in the Corporate Marketing & Communications group. Five artists were selected to create an art piece to present to him and relate it to Arcadis’ mission.
"We aim to enhance mobility, sustainability and quality of life by creating balance in the built and natural environment."
The creation of this piece was inspired after the 2012 Colorado wildfires. Over a dozen fires destroyed thousands of acres, the following are the 3 that hit home the hardest. The High Park Fire west of Fort Collins was the 2nd largest in state history, the Waldo Canyon Fire in Colorado Springs the most destructive in state history, and the Lower North Fork Fire (only two miles away from my home) effected me personally by forcing my family to evacuate our home for 5 days, luckily not damaging any personal property. I felt it was a perfect subject to represent what Arcadis stands for.
Quality of life is something that I strongly believe in and Arcadis steps into devistating situations and applies it’s knowledge and expertise to come up with solutions. These solutions change the world and inspire others to stay strong and continue on with life.
‘Rebuild’ explains all this by showing a burned landscape on a wooden board representing the start of something new. The knot on the board can be viewed as a sun or moon explaining the begining of a new day or the end of a disaster. The layer of blue water color sets a calm, cool, settling tone on the overall situation. I feel this piece relates to the built and natural environments that we live in.
